Owed
Terms
Short version: checking is free, you pay only if money actually reaches you, and we are not a law firm.
Effective 28 August 2026. These terms are between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], trading as Owed. By using this site you agree to them.
When a property is sold at a foreclosure auction or a tax sale for more than was owed on it, the difference is usually held by the county or the state and belongs to the former owner or their heirs. Owed searches public records, tells you what we find, and if you engage us, we prepare and file the claim and deal with the agency until it is resolved.
Checking is free and puts you under no obligation. A match in public records means a record exists under a name like yours. It does not guarantee that money is owed to you, that you are entitled to claim it, or that it is still available. Records are incomplete and change constantly, so a result of "no match" is not proof that nothing is owed either.
Claim windows are set by state law and they close. Some are measured in months from a notice you may never have received. We will tell you what we understand the deadline to be, but we cannot be responsible for a deadline that passes before you engage us, or for one an agency applies differently than expected.
If you tick the consent box you agree we may contact you by phone, text and email, including by automated means. Consent is not a condition of service. Reply STOP to any text to opt out. How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy.
You may stop working with us at any time before a claim is filed, at no cost. After filing, the signed agreement governs what happens. We may decline or withdraw from any matter, including where a claim turns out not to be viable, where information given to us was inaccurate, or where continuing would be unlawful.
We do not guarantee that any claim will succeed, that any amount will be recovered, or how long an agency will take. Anything we say about likely outcomes is an estimate.
The site and the free check are provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties, and our total liability arising out of these terms is limited to the fees you have actually paid us. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud.
These terms are governed by the laws of [STATE], without regard to conflict of laws rules. Where the law of the state in which a claim is filed imposes stricter requirements on recovery services, that law applies to that claim.
We may update these terms and will post the new version here with a new effective date. Signed claim agreements are not changed by an update to this page.
